This is a unique opportunity to join a private, biology-driven and preclinical-stage company, newly incorporated as a spin-off of the Ludwig Institute for Cancer Research and the Université catholique de Louvain.
This spin-off will leverage tumor immunology expertise from the Ludwig Institute to focus on discovery and development of first-in-class small molecule drugs that stimulate the immune system’s ability to detect and eliminate cancers. It will validate their therapeutic use in preclinical and clinical models to improve the efficacy of cancer treatments, with an initial focus on the improvement of therapeutic cancer vaccines.

Director - Medicinal Chemistry (full-time position)
Role
This position will provide scientific leadership and drug discovery/medicinal chemistry expertise for lead discovery and optimization projects. Reporting to the CEO, the candidate will develop and take ownership of various strategic initiatives for the drug discovery programs. The candidate must have proven track of effective project leadership within cross-functional teams, including effective management and decision making, as well as strong communications skills. Must be able to examine, prioritize and give credible scientific input on new concepts, molecular designs and other ideas coming from CROs, partners and consultants. In addition he/she is expected to develop and maintain strong awareness of external scientific and technological advances in the field of drug discovery. The candidate will develop contacts with thought leaders, professional organizations, and institutions and will represent company’s chemistry externally.
Key Tasks & Responsibilities
- Ensure that projects are accomplished on time and within budget
- Manage outsourced chemistry and collaboration with the Ludwig Institute for Cancer Research
- Provide scientific expertise and leadership. He/She should be able to integrate multiple complex data sets, analyze/interpret them and propose solutions
- Communicate very effectively in written and oral form. He/She should be able to write high-quality complete scientific reports, publications and have excellent presentation and public speaking skills. The candidate should be able to critique scientific presentations/reports in professional and credible manner. Represent and increase the reputation of the company in external scientific meetings. Communicate and collaborate effectively with CROs, consultants and other external organizations
- Participate actively in project meetings and other collaborative committee meetings, and share openly his/her scientific ideas, and technology knowledge. Assume responsibility for executing strategic initiatives within the function;
- Demonstrate ability to contribute on various aspects outside own scientific area, and is able to collaborate with stakeholders from all relevant functions. Keep up-to-date in the literature related to the field.
Qualifications
Education
- PhD degree and >5 years of post-doc related industrial drug discovery experience
Professional Skills & Experience
- Must have proven scientific leadership proficiency in medicinal chemistry
- Good publication record in peer reviewed journals often as first author
- Leadership and mentorship abilities with significant experience in managing CROs
- Successful drug discovery record, with compounds that have advanced in clinical trials
- Some insight in molecular modeling.

Associate Director - Tumor Immunology (full-time position)
Role
The purpose of this position is to lead company’s research efforts in small molecule immunomodulator discovery and development. Reporting to the CSO, the candidate will develop and take ownership of various strategic initiatives for the drug discovery programs. The candidate must have a proven track of effective project leadership within cross-functional teams, including effective management and decision making, as well as strong communications skills. Hire, direct, and develop qualified scientific staff and ensure that projects are accomplished on time and within budget. Must be able to manage the performance of his/her group effectively resulting in highest productivity, creativity and efficiency. Must be able to examine, prioritize and give credible scientific input on new concepts and other ideas coming from CROs, partners and consultants. In addition, he/she is expected to develop and maintain strong awareness of external scientific and technological advances in the field of drug discovery related to tumor immunology and immunomodulation. The candidate will develop contacts with thought leaders, professional organizations, and institutions and will represent company R&D externally.

- Lead a team focused on the discovery, development and preclinical validation of innovative immunomodulators for cancer therapy in ex vivo and in vivo models
- Define the role and mechanism of action of these immunomodulators

- Provide scientific expertise and leadership. The candidate should be able to integrate multiple complex data sets, analyze/interpret them and propose solutions

3 Research Associates - Discovery Immunology (full-time positions)
Role
The purpose of these positions is to develop the company’s research efforts in small molecule immunomodulators discovery and development. The responsibilities will include assay development and implementation to enable the progression of new small molecule therapeutics. The position will also involve the study of immune system-tumor interaction by development of ex vivo and in vivo models and evaluation of the immunomodulators using these models.

- Be part of a team focused on the discovery, development and preclinical validation of innovative immunomodulators for cancer therapy in murine models
- Ensure high productivity and laboratory safety
- Communicate very effectively in written and oral form

Qualification
Education
- Bachelor/Master in science or equivalent in immunology, biochemistry or a closely related field, and >3 years of experience in the biotech/pharmaceutical industry or in a similar academic position are required. Years of experience required can vary depending on the qualifications of the candidate.
Professional Skills & Experience
- A strong background in cellular and/or tumor immunology
- Familiarity with tumor models and mechanisms of anti-tumor responses with strength in the analysis of the activity of inflammatory cell subsets in anti-tumor immunity
- Extensive experience with recombinant cell line development and use
- Strong background and experience in immunology-related technologies including flow cytometry, multiplex immunoassays, immune cell isolation and primary lymphocyte cell culture
- Knowledge of signaling assays, Western blotting, gene transfer, quantitative RT-PCR and automated assay technologies
- Experience with animal models
- Familiarity with tumor models and mechanisms of anti-tumor responses with strength in the analysis of the activity of lymphocyte/monocyte subsets in anti-tumor immunity.
